Chapter 4 – Public Relations Departments and Firms

1   I was interested to learn how PR firms get business.  It reminded me of a Jerry Seinfeld show where George was pitching his ideas/ campaign to a publishing firm (if I remember correctly.) But in this case the request for proposal (RFP) comes from the potential client.

2.  Also of interest was the article on when to resign an account. It appears that some PR firms could not ‘ethically’ represent clients who took a stand against abortion and gays, based either on their own positions or standards, or on the possible repercussion to the PR firm. It seems to me that PR firms have a right to determine who they will represent and that corporations also have a right to determine what they will represent.  An interesting dilemma.

3.  I was surprised to learn that the industry standard for billing a client is 3x the reps salary an hour, with the national average at $213. an hr.
